Rôle: Rebecca's Father

Release Date: 21 June 1968

Synopsis: Newly married Rebecca leaves her husband, the school teacher Raymond, and takes off on her motorcycle to meet her lover Daniel in Heidelberg. While crossing Europe, she recalls some moments of Raymond's life and how she met Daniel at her father's bookstore and then at an inn.

Comment: Marius plays the father of Rebecca (Marianne Faithfull) and is delightful in several scenes with her and Daniel (Alain Delon). In the first scene he playfully smacks her on the bottom as she perches on a ladder, for putting a book in the wrong place on a shelf. In a later scene he looks particularly cuddly in a lovely blue pullover (that matches his eyes) as he waves goodbye to Rebecca as she goes off for a ride on Daniel's motorcycle.

Trivia: The director/cinematographer Jack Cardiff was the cinematographer for A Matter of Life and Death (1946) and The Red Shoes (1948), two of Marius's most famous films.

Availability: DVD (Odeon Entertainment) Release Date: 9 September 2013.
